TEST COMMENTS |
Protein concentration: Place 0.2 mL of CSF in a plastic transfer tube. (Do not use the red-top vacutainer tubes that are coated with silica chips.) For TNCC and microscopic examination: Collect patient's blood in a red-top (plain) vacutainer. Allow sample to clot at least 30 minutes. Centrifuge tube for at least 5 minutes. Transfer non-hemolyzed serum to a plain, plastic tube. Place 0.250 (250uL) of CSF in a 1 mL or 2 mL EDTA tube. Add 0.030 mL (20uL; about 2 large drops) of the patient's non-hemolyzed serum to the CSF sample. Ship both tubes on cold packs overnight. |
